Summary/Abstract: The following article highlights the problem of vanity of human life. Analysis of the historical novels by Sienkiewicz explains the fragility and impermanence of heroes’ lives. An important aspect of the article is the theme of death, seventeenth-century war, pain and martyrdom of early christians.
