Summary/Abstract: Beekeeping is a very important element of the state’s food economy. The question arises of the problems, which affect today’s honey bee farming in Poland. It seems that these difficulties are often known to beekeepers in other parts of the world. The problem of extinction of bees (colony collapse disorder – known as CCD) has become increasingly common for some time in existing literature of the subject. There is also a more visible increasing problem in honey bee farming of the so-called cement honey among the articles on apiculture. A huge barrier to the development of Polish apiculture is also the sharp decline in professional beekeeping for amateur beekeeping. The aim of this paper is to present current problems of the apiculture market in Poland, and analyze existing barriers to the development of this sector in comparison to similar problems in Europe and in the world.
