Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to show the impact of resources of human capital (education, physical health and mental wellbeing) on shaping the subjective quality of life of inhabitants of the five post-industrial cities which are located in Poland, Russia, Lithuania, Hungary and Turkey. An attempt will be made to answer the question which of the resources of human capital significantly differentiate the level of quality of life of the respondents and what are the similarities and differences between the studied communities. The results of the research show that the selected human capital resources are rather weak models explaining the differences in the subjective quality of life of the examined populations although the level of the influence of this variable system is diversified in the communities of different cities. Human capital resources cannot therefore be regarded as universal indicators of the subjective quality of life in a group of surveyed post-industrial cities. The component of human capital that differentiated the assessment of one’s own life the most was psychic wellbeing, but its significance also varied.
