Summary/Abstract: Among the features concerning rural spatial structures of villages and characteristics of rural areas, which support multidirectional socio-economic development and improvement of living conditions of the countryside inhabitants, nucleated and clustered character of rural settings is of particular importance, as it facilitates infrastructural and social integration. Moreover, a clustered rural settlement is often more available to noninhabitants. Also, the demographic potential of a village is not without significance for its development. It provides economic justification for the maintenance of basic service sector in the village and the development of public spaces similar to a town centre, including junction elements (i.e. clear and permanent system of roads and streets). Demographic potential is also conducive to the existence of services, industrial facilities and multi-family residential housing which help increase the densification. If you take into account the above features of settlement systems found in rural areas, than the legitimate aim of the article is to estimate the degree of housing density in various types of rural communes (gminas) in Poland and to determine how it is distributed along the rural Poland. The assessment of housing density development in rural settings enables to identify areas with various quality of villages in terms of possible infrastructure improvement projects, investment opportunities and social inclusion projects.
