Summary/Abstract: Various party and state documents revealing the different aspects of the initial phases of Bulgaria’s joining the European Economic Community are now available, namely the diplomatic acknowledgement, the trade-economic cooperation and association of the country. They make it possible to further elucidate and supplement historiography achievements on the topic because they reveal the difficulties, problems and the extent of the changes that lie ahead on the long path towards full membership in the European Union. They provide comparatively clearer connection between the economic and political aspects of accession to Europe. Therefore, these documents underlie the analysis of the first steps the Bulgarian state has taken towards Europe uniting around the EEC.
