Summary/Abstract: This study aims to shed light on the contradictory nature of Lucian Blaga’s poetry in the Romanian critical study. Labeled as an expressionist by the country’s major critics, it remains to be seen whether or not his expressionistic traits are a result of cultural appropriation or total immersion in the phenomenon of german expressionism. By clearly pointing out the differences and similarities of Lucian Blaga’s poetry and the poetry of his german contemporaries, we aim to demonstrate that his understanding of expressionism goes beyond the traditional definition of the concept.
