The problem of culture as cultus animi in the writings of Stefan Swieżawski

Summary/Abstract: Defining the issue of culture Stefan Swieżawski lays great stress on philosophy and the Gospel, the basic culture-creative elements (those being fundamental for education). The stand coincides with the Second Vatican Council. Swieżawski calls for deepening the notion of human culture in the cultus animi spirit – the cultivation of human spirit, which should be understood as the proper and full development of mental powers and will. Thus, it is wisdom more than knowledge in cognition and good in conduct that are to characterize contemporary Christians. “In the truly cultural light is a sagacious and being-able-to-love man, even if they could not produce or consume any cultural achievements”. The culture understood in the previously presented way is supposed to lead to the true humanization of human relationships.
