Summary/Abstract: Energy sector in Romania has a complex structure. Its complexity derives from the diversity of resources used to produce electricity and heat. In the same time this sector suffers for old power producing units and, accordingly, it is served by people with limited capabilities for adaptation to new technologies and, sometimes lacks new, younger employees. This has an important impact on employment and societal level. University Politehnica of Bucharest under SOREL project had the opportunity to offer training for almost 2000 employees in the energy sector on different topics. This project gave people the chance to be trained in new fields enabling them to access jobs different from the ones most of them had their whole life. As teaching and training method it was used a flexible scheme (both classical and with the help of new technologies), based on individual qualities. The general objective of the project is to increase the adaptability of the employees in the energy sector and to promote flexible ways of work - organization within the operators in the sector. In the long term, the project improves the organization of the operators in the energy sector because it offers organizational alternatives and develops the skills of the managers in the sector in order to apply innovative, efficient and flexible forms of work - organization. The project also increases the efficiency of operators in the energy sector and improves pollution control mechanisms by developing knowledge and skills for human resources and by empowering employees to their role in pollution control.
