Summary/Abstract: This paper analyzes several works of Belarusian literature of the first half of the 19th century whose authors discussed the subject of the revival of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth which was very popular among the representatives of Belarusian upper class. The author concentrates his attention on verses (author’s and anonymous) of various versions (also unknown) in order to prove the presence of political thought in the literature on the one hand, and to express the conviction that the formation of the Belarusian national idea in the second part of the 19th century was possible thanks to the patriotic feelings based on true attachment to Belarus and the idea of revival of Res Publica.
