Summary/Abstract: Functions of white color as an essential and most productive means of mythologization and symbolization of animals based on examples from Belarusian folklore are discussed. With the help of functional-semantic and historical-genetic methods, symbolic semantics and functionality of animals marked with white colour are determined. White animals are recognized as characters of folk demonology, and at the same time they symbolize ritual purity. They were given supernatural abilities, were used in magical and folk-medical practice. They create special “mythological class” representatives of which were perceived as kings among their relatives. Zoomorphic characters of white colour belong to the images drawn in mythological-poetic semantics of the lyrics and perform important functional and emotional role in songs.
