Summary/Abstract: The foreign language competence continues to be one of the eight key competences under the terms of the European Union language policy. After a short historical review of the reforms in curricula and an introduction to the results achieved so far at European and national level, the modern trends and challenges of language training are considered in accordance with the European Cooperation in Education and Training (ECET) 2020 and EU 2020 within the framework of the Lifelong learning policy
