Summary/Abstract: Plants play a prominent role in the poetry of Milosav Tešić since his first book of poetry Kupinovo (1986) until his book Dar i kob (2006), where he achieves a herbarium condensation, i.e. the peak in all his previous ponderings and fascination by fitonyms. The poet himself in some of his autopoetic comments explains the symbolism and function of plants in his poetry. Most of the plants listed in the description of an herb garden which surrounds his home have a special magical status in traditional Serbian culture and are often used in different rituals (hazel, basil, feverfew) or have a special place in oral poetry (costmary, iris). These particular characteristics of theirs are emphasized in the poet’s poetics. The harmony of the relation ‘man – herbs’ is present in almost all of his books of poetry and it testifies of an increased awareness of the unity and mutual connection of the two worlds, a symbiosis which cancels the feeling of self-sufficiency.
