Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the essence of the notions “guardianship” and “upbringing”in Ukrainian and Polish educational literature, theoretical and methodological approaches to their interpretation. The difference and commonality between the notions “guardianship” and “upbringing” have been proved. We have noted that in factthey are two different areas of human activities that have a different genesis, differentaims and different content of activities. In the process of education there are changesin personality from the point of view of the normative ideal, and the result of these actions depends on the system of values determined by pupils. Guardianship is carried out regardless of what system of values is acknowledged by a ward and whether hewants changes that go toward recognition of socially approved norms. The guardianshipand upbringing are linked up with one another as two main factors concerning human`s development
