Summary/Abstract: László Bernáth, journalist and lecturer. His article on the future ofjournalism is an edited version of a conference presentation given at theUniversity of Eger, Department of Communication Studies. The article arguesthat changes in journalism, like in the world in general, can be predicted forperiods not longer than five years. Editorial offices will continue to function,as personal presence and contact are basic needs that cannot and will not berenounced by mankind. Quality journalism will probably hold its ground inprinting for a long time to come, even if with decreasing circulations, sincethere are readers who require analysis, presentations of backgrounds andconnections, as well as a choice of opinions on the press market. Thisrequires time and proper knowledge of background and connections, whichcan only be provided by quality journalism.
