Internet as a Source of Information about Health and Diseases

Summary/Abstract: Nowadays the Internet is used as one of the main sources of information abouthealth and diseases. On the one hand it has many advantages, but on the other hand, itmay be associated with a variety of threats. For this reason, the author decided to carryout a generalized SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis. It takesinto account the context of the use of the Internet as a source of information about healthand diseases. SWOT analysis has been carried out based on scientific publications, whichdescribe the results of studies (mostly among Polish patients) on the role of the Internet asa source of information about health and diseases, as well as on the basis of the author’sexperience in the design, implementation and use of online tools. Preparation of the articlerequired, in addition to analysis of the literature, the use of comparative methods andlogical reasoning.
