Summary/Abstract: In this article the author focuses upon the role of a teacher of the Islamic religious studies class in contemporary school. After the introductory part the author presents basic dimension of professional skills required for a teacher of Islamic religious studies as well as the weaknesses in the performance of teachers of religious studies. He also gives an insight into a model of creative class. Considering the fact that changes taking place in the contemporary school systems are affecting everybody dealing with upbringing and education, not only religious studies teachers, the author concludes that a teacher of religious studies should be regarded as any other teacher of any other subject in school, but the specific nature of the subject of the Islamic religious studies needs to be kept in mind.
