Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is the analysis of the vocabulary naming hunting women and those connected with hunting by affinity as well as picturing the reality of the world of hunters reflected in idiomatic expressions and proverbs related to women. The analysis of the examined data shows the rapid decrease in the number of female names and using eponym Diana in the contemporary language to indicate hunting women which results in appellation meaning transferring the proper name (Diana) to the pool of common words (Diana “a hunting woman”).The research of the given idiomatic expressions and proverbs related to women proves that the vocabulary reflects the subjective picture of the world. Women are perceived in a stereotypical way and the remarks and admonishments which are found in phrases can be read as the lack of trust towards ladies. At the same time the hunting proverbs thanks to comparing to some animals (roe deer, doe ) show positive aspects of females who are presented as agile, skillful and graceful.
