Summary/Abstract: This paper argues in favour of Bavarian Standard German as a standard variety in its own right, like German Standard German, Austrian German, and Swiss Standard German. Therefore, the respective linguistic features are being discussed as well as historical and actual political backgrounds, and the factors still hampering the further and far-reaching acceptance of Bavarian Standard German, as well.
