Summary/Abstract: Direct democracy is mentioned in several articles of the Polish Constitution. The authors pay special attention to this form of direct democracy, which is a referendum. They point to the close relationship between referenda and populism. They argue that referenda are less a direct and universal form of exercising power, but, above all, they are a tool for implementing the often populist postulates expressed by politicians.
