Summary/Abstract: This research is conducted for the purpose of drawing a “picture” of the cognitive outlook contemporary students have about Europe. As a comparison basis in the project we have Hristo Botev’s knowledge of Europe from the middle of XIX century. He is a Bulgarian revolutionar, poet, publisher and journalist. The research includes 1312 students in internal and external state of education, interviewed in 11 years. Conclusions have been made for the feature of contemporary students’ knowledge about Europe in three areas – history, culture and terminology. An attempt has been made to outline the author’s opinion on the reasons for the students’ unfavorable knowledge about Europe.
