Summary/Abstract: After more than 60 years since the signing of the Treaty of Rome, the European Court of Justice reaffirmed its commitment to preserving the independence of the judiciary in a Union that seeks to be a Union of Law, an area where judicial cooperation is possible by virtue of the mutual trust principle based on the independence of the judicial system of each Member State. The judgement of the Court of Justice of 27 February 2018 in Associação Sindical dos Juízes Portugueses (C 64/16, EU:C:2018:117), which is analysed in this article, is a testimony to that effect.
