Summary/Abstract: The secret of wisdom in establishing a relationship between the state and the church is contained in the mutual effort for the state to avoid being the "collective theist" or "collective atheist". In accordance with that, the church must not in any respect instrumentalize the state and, simultaneously, has to try to resist any form, either open or disguised, of manipulation on the part of the state and political parties. The withdrawal of the church from politics and its avant-guarde mission within a nation, which means its remaining within the religious framework, would suit the prevailing tendences of church and religion development in the world and the peculiarities of our society. By avoiding this direction, both the state and the church will show that they are based upon humanistic principles which is exhausted in the this-wordly (when it comes to the state) and reaches the other-wordly (when it comes to the church).
