Summary/Abstract: Możdżyński in his analysis of contemporary visual arts uses Johan Huizinga’s theory of a play, and his idea, that a play is a source of human culture. The text begins from recalling Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of field of art. According to this perspective contemporary art is “inverted world”, process of creativity and artistic way of life is a play. In the next parts of this paper the author presents ludic aspects of 20th and 21st visual arts describing selected collages, assemblages, actions, installations, ar t out of the gallery (earth art, site-speciffic art, land art), and body art. In the last part of essay Możdżyński analyses contemporary art in the context of the postmodern culture of “never-ending carnival”.
