Summary/Abstract: Zorba's poetry, a modern poetry, deeply influenced by the affinity for hermetism, sprouted from avant-garde experiments, seems to have very few historical and social references. But in some of the signs in his text, where the element of personal expression seems rather pale, his life experience has been deeply absorbed. We will investigate these signs of literary text that condenses his experience and personality. After we discuss the problem of the relation between text and reality, we will contrast the ideas: 1. reference as an illusion that obstruct the understanding of literature as such, and 2. as a system of facts and events, which, with the technique of representation and due to a peculiar alchemy are arranged in poetry. Thus we will return to Aristotelian mimesis authority and meaning. We will trace and observe how dreams, experiences and real life are merged in Zorba’s poetry, how opaque similarities and shaky mirrors restructure, transform and integrate living realities - and most importantly, how in this integration they lose their narrow personal meanings to obtain an all-human material.
