Summary/Abstract: The origin of palimpsest is over-writing on the first texts written on animal skin and parchment. This method of writing turns into a reason to recontextualize this term for the purpose of denoting a new way of reading and a poetics of creation. This method of reading deals with the communication between texts, recontextualizing old texts into new ones. The communication of various components within texts is permanent and diverse. Theorists admit to inter-communicative relativity. Some texts have a greater percentage of reappropriations than others. Transtextuality is an old occurrence or event, but its theory eventuated rather late. Formalist and Structuralist theories account for the genesis of the theory of palimpsest as well as its creation. One must take into account the interrelationship with Saussure’s linguistic concepts, Bakhtin’s dialogic principle, the indisputable presence of intertextuality in every text declared by Kristeva, the relation between the palimpsestual and the postmodern as evidenced by Hutcheon up to Genette’s formidable study on palimpsests. Genette identifies five types of transtextuality: Paratextuality, Metatextuality, Architextuality, Hypertextuality, and Intertextuality. He also acknowledges the relativity of the scale of communication between texts which may be greater or more modest. He recognizes the communication between discourses, motifs, prosody, style, etc.
