Summary/Abstract: Horst Fassel has left us on 4 December 2017 after a long, patiently endured disease. He was born on August 15th, 1942, in Temeschwar/Romania (historical landscape of the Banat). Between 1960–1965 he studied German Linguistics, Romance languages and Romanian philology at the “Babeş-Bolyai-University” of Cluj (Klauenburg/ Kolozsvár). Following his examination in Cluj he was awarded the position of a scientific assistant at the chair of German Studies at the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iaşi (Jassy), where he graduated, 1978, in a thesis on Die deutsche Reisebeschreibung und ihre Form in der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts [The german travel description and her form in the second half of the 19th century]. Together with his wife Dr. Luminţa Fassel and his daughter Anemone he managed to emigrate, 1983, from Romania to Germany, where he has been employed/editor at various journals, for example at “Banatica”. His list of publications is very extensive. We mention two of his major publications: the reissue/reprint (Cluj 2002) of the “Journal for Comparative-Literature” (Összenhasonlító Irodalomtörténelmi Lapok), since 1879 entitled “Acta Comparationis Litteram Universarium”, the other one: “Das deutsche Staatstheater in Temeschwar (1953–2003).”
