Summary/Abstract: A Chinese initiative named “A New Silk Route” encompasses a network of railway and sea corridors joining China with Europe. If it is realised, it will be one of the biggest logistic projects of our times. Development of these corridors will create new conditions for the transportation of goods and growth of global supply chains. It can be predicted that with their development significant growth of container transport will take place. The development of railway corridors will result in moving part of container loads, for which the time of delivery is important, from sea transport to rail and intermodal. The article discusses the benchmarking of container transport of Central and Eastern European countries as potential participants of NSR. The aim of the analysis was to study the potential in the field of container transport of surveyed countries, to compare them and identify leaders whom best practises can be found at in this regard. Based on the results of analysis the countries were identified which are most likely to play a significant role in this initiative in the field of container transport.
