Summary/Abstract: In the local history of the city of Zabrze in the 1920s, there is a picturesque figure of an alleged prince of Persia and nephew to the Shah of Iran, who was supposed to be acquiring knowledge of the modern mining industry in the Guido mine. The author summarises the information pertaining to the mysterious Middle Eastern aristocrat published in the press at that time, and then confronts it with some media reports published over a quarter a century later referring to a visit of an Afghan dignitary – a senior official at the ministry of the mining industry of that country – in the USA. There is much circumstantial evidence to justify the supposition that the same person is being referred to.
