A Comparative Analysis on Long-Term Unemployment and its Effects

Summary/Abstract: This study aims to explain the problem of long-term unemployment which becomes more evident in the world and Turkey with the conversion of labor force markets, to deal with the long term unemployment through the capability approach, to reveal the effects of long term unemployment on both individuals and society and to discuss the methods to struggle long term unemployment. The fact that there is a large population struggling with long-term unemployment in Turkey and that there is little research in the literature on this social problem necessitated this work. Individuals who experience long-term unemployment are physically and psychologically damaged. In this respect, considering the capability approach and other methods of struggle to remove the long-term unemployment is contribution to social policy field.
