Summary/Abstract: Iran and Saudi Arabia, who try to become dominant powers in the Middle East are increasing their regional competition day by day. While pursuing their policies, they could be defenders of the two main sects of Islam, but they can easily disregard the religion if this contradicts with their interests. They carry out proxy wars and destabilize the regional countries as Iraq, Syria, Yemen and Lebanon by supporting the groups close to them. Ambitions to become a regional power are leading to conflict and creating a “security dilemma” between Iran and Saudi Arabia. The study is analyzing the causes and consequences of the relations between these two rivals in different periods and examines the effects of competition on other countries in the region.
