Summary/Abstract: The basic requirement of the efficient functioning of the company in the market,regardless of its specificity, is to maintain an adequate level of financial liquidity. Forthe company’s development, it is necessary to develop an appropriate level of profitability. The purpose of this article is to carry out, on the basis of the aggregated data, the analysis and assessment of financial liquidity and profitability of Polish small and medium enterprises(SME) and some family businesses, and to compare them. The analysis of indicators showed that the family firms reported higher liquidity and profitability compared to the small and medium enterprises. Approaches to the level of ROE were slightly different. They mainly aimed at improving asset turnover and reducing of borrowed capital in the family businesses,and increasing profit margins and the involvement of borrowed capital in the small and medium enterprises.
