YOLLARBAŞI GREAT MOSQUE MIHRAB TILES

Summary/Abstract: It is understood that the architecture of Karamanoğlu Beylık has few the number of tiles decorated with fıgures and it has been determined that sufficient work has not been done in this area. For this reason, the Yollarbaşı Great Mosque, which has the figüre motifed tiles from the architectural structures of the Beylık, has been determined as the research topıc. This research which started with referring to the general features of Yollarbaşı Great Mosque, was completed by giving detailed information about the tiles decorated with figure motifs. in Karaman province, Yollarbaşı Great Mosque mıhrap part has two tile adorned with figures. These tiles, randomly placed on the mihrab, whıch are decorated with human and bird motifs. In the study, the techniques, forms, genres, symbolic values and similar motifs of the ornamented tiles were determined and a detailed examination of these tiles was conducted. The study of the reason why these figurative motifs are applied to the mihrab section has been questioned and tried to be understood. With this study we have investigated the figurative tiles of Yollarbaşı Ulu Mosque from Karamanoğlu Beylik period architecture and determined importance and value in Turkish art.
