Summary/Abstract: In the history of Turkish painting, Onlar Group comes out as a formation that aims to give Turkish painting both original and comtemporary interpretation moving from local and traditional art forms. The group was formed in 1946 by Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu’s 10 students (Mustrafa Esirkuş, Leyla Gamsız Sarptürk, Fikret Elpe, Mehmet Pesen, Nedim Günsür, Saynur Kıyıcı Güzelson, Hulusi Sarptürk, Ivy Stangali, Fahrünnisa Sönmez and Maryam Özacul Özcilyan) and the number of members increased over 20 in a short time with the participation of other artist like Turan Erol, Orhan Peker, Osman Zeki Oral, Fikret Otyam, Adnan Varınca. The group performed the last collective exhibition in 1954 then it become ineffective because of some members move away from common purpose and turn to individual work and the others go abroad. Nevertheless, Onlar Group has taken place in Turkish painting history as an important movement. In this study, Onlar Group which was created with the idea of performing East-West synthesis in the Turkish painting and one of the founders of the group Ivy Stangali’a little-known art and life story were examined. The obtained information has been tried to be supposed with the visuals reached.
