Summary/Abstract: Russian phraseology concentrates the huge opulence of linguistic devices, which shape the expressive and emotional nature of the language as well as influence its ethnic uniqueness. As components of the phraseological layer of the Russian language, idioms of biblical origin are marked emotionally, expressively and stylistically. These idioms reflect the world of human emotions and confirm the expressive potential of the language units. The emotional-expressive shades of meaning of the idioms of biblical genesis are extensively presented in different varieties of spoken language, literature and journalism.
