Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to reflect on the border of freedom in shaping the one’s self. Identity is understood in the concept of narrativists. The problem has been narrowed to the limits of freedom caused by mass art.According to narrativists, an individual's identity is a reflective project, realized in time. Everyone builds it independently. Nowadays, the possibilities of choosing our own path have grown tremendously, but still, what we are becoming does not depend only on ourselves. In addition to the constraints that accompany human beings, as economic conditions, tradition, expectations of loved ones, new difficulties have appeared, such as the pressure to look and behave like a man or woman of success - the unsurpassed pattern created by mass art. The paper presents the concept of narrative identity, mainly in terms of Charles Taylor and Anthony Giddens and the notion of mass art in Noel Carroll's thought. Then there is presented the possible impact of mass art on how we should look, who we should be and how to achieve happiness.
