Summary/Abstract: Languages create the world in which people live. The word is a basic functional unit of language. The focus of this paper is on the point of intersection of units, which belong to different linguistic levels. Like every meaningful unit, the word can be treated in terms of form and content. Its has both lexical and grammatical meaning. The unity of these two components forms the overall lexico-grammatical content of the word as its semantic characteristic. Word meanings are not fixed for all time in any one language. Semantic changes take place all along, and at any moment the semantic area covered by a word is indeterminately bordered and differs from context to context. This is a further aspect of the current study.
