Archimandrite John Nikolov as an Observer of the Fourth Session of the Second Vatican Council (14 September – 8 December 1965)

Summary/Abstract: The article studies the Second Vatican council and more specifically its fourth session where different fractions were formed by the participating delegates. Archimandrite John took part as a Bulgarian observer in this council. The council dis¬cussed topics of religious freedom and accepted a declaration in this respect - this was the first document of that kind issued by the Roman Catholic Church. It also discussed the economic and social activity of the church, considered questions of its missionary activity, looked at the problems of world peace. The author of the study examines also the relationships between the Roman Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church.
