Summary/Abstract: This paper presents the results of analysis of life and work of the Serbian writer Aleksije Vezilić (1753-1792). The research was initiated by a presumption of the necessity of revalorisation and reaffirmation of his position in the history of the Serbian culture. He became known after he had published a manual for rules of correspondence - Kratkoje sočinenije o privatnih i publičnih delah (1785). Three years later he published his most popular work - Kratkoje napisanije o spokojnoj žizni (1788). That book of poems authored by Aleksije Vezilić was marginalised in the literary historiography until the late XX century, when this author was (finally) included into the most important representatives of the Serbian classicism. Regardless of how much the poet believed in the great value of his morals, the openness of Kratkoje napisanije o spokojnoj žizni to new readings and construals becomes fully obvious when we approach Aleksije Vezilić’s poems as the basis for analysing private life of the Serbs in the XVIII century.
