A VICIOUS CIRCLE BY JOKSIM NOVIĆ OTOČANIN

Summary/Abstract: Employing the mythopoetic method, the paper studies mythological structures and images in the book A Vicious Circle by a romantic writer Joksim Nović Otočanin. The mythopoetic method has been used to study not only the individual mythologems, but also the author’s mythological views. As a proponent of romanticism, Nović understands myth as an aesthetic phenomenon. The aim of the paper has been to point to the aesthetic values of this fairy-tale-like narrative and to its unfair neglect, while the objective of the paper has been to determine its genre and to study its mythopoetic dominant traits. Tha study has shown the aesthetic relevance of Nović’s piece of writing and stressed its significance for the Serbian romantic fantasy prose.
