Summary/Abstract: This paper attempts to outline a methodological “map” of national research approaches in the field of cinema as art and industry. An ambivalent attitude towards Hollywood has been explored, occupying an important place for the formation of national film identity and its expression. In the text is summarized the “trajectory” of the national film as a concept and problematic field that follows the contemporary Bulgarian cinema after 1989. A key point of the study is the relationship between national cinema as an artistic discourse and the problems of its production and consumption at the intersection between the public and the market. The process of increased interest in contemporary Bulgarian cinema in the last ten years has been analytically substantiated.
