Summary/Abstract: This article treats about Jesus Christ in African cultural context and African christology, the latter being part of a broader African theology, resulting from the process of inculturation of Christianity. African christology ascribes to Jesus three important social and cultural models, corresponding to physical and mental needs of the local population: Ancestor, Ruler, Physician and Healer. The model of Christ as Ancestor seems to have the deepest roots in religious mental constitution of Africans. Christ is perceived as a special Ancestor, fountain of life and model of ancestry. The idea of Christ as Ruler is justified by the sacral nature of leadership in Africa. Christ as Physician and Healer mirrors local medicine men. The author of this article draws attention to the objectives of African christological models.
