Summary/Abstract: Fr. Żelazek (b. 1918) is an iconic figure in the missionary activity of the Church. His work was covered by lay and church press. This article is an analysis of the press and new media. Newspapers were divided into two categories: lay and Christian, with an emphasis on missionary magazines published by the SVD, Fundacja Pomocy Humanitarnej [Humanitarian Foundation] Redemptoris Missio, and others. Several hundred texts were researched. Polish media present Fr. Żelazek SVD as a missionary: man of prayer, full of God; man of dialogue, teaching others how to proclaim the Gospel through catechesis and example of life; man looking after the sick, poor and illiterate; man giving impulses to new initiatives (for instance, volunteers for missions, interreligious dialogue, integrated schools). He is one of few churchmen presented in a positive light by both Christian media and neutral ones, or even hostile to the Church. Most articles about him come from the time when he was a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize.
