DISCUSSIONS ABOUT LANGUAGE AT THE TIME OF GLOBALIZATION

Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses the consequences of globalization related to language as man’s basic means of communication. It points out to the irrepressible impact of the English language in the international, primarily electronic communication, and to the phenomenon denoted by the term lingua franca. The paper also directs attention to the opposite tendency for language independence. Then, the paper discusses the impact of neologisms and „foreign words” in the Serbian language and recommends a reasonable measure in their use. Reasonable adoption of „foreign words” left valuable results in the history of the Serbian language.
