Summary/Abstract: An architectural structure is not solely composed of a place enclosed by walls and ceiling. Enclosed space can be made livelier, richer or more beautifying the life by various means. We can observe one of the most remarkable examples of this on traditional house’s doors of civil architecture in Tokat. Elegant expression and sophistication of past are reflected on door knockers on doors of traditional houses in Tokat. Door knockers which symbolizehouse owner’s life style welcome incoming guests before house owner and say them “welcome”. Door knockers have several details informing about house owner’s social status, marital status and profession with its embroideries. Door knockers in Tokat form necklaces and earrings of doors. They create a connection between house owner and guest based on “communication” by means of both messages they contain and their functionality in social life. Also with a view toaesthetic values door knockers are pieces of art which sense of art and life style of an era are exhibited on.
