Summary/Abstract: Proverbs and idioms have an important place among the resources in learning styles of living and value judgements. Many statements reaching today after a long journey are the outcome of a lasting experience coming from the past. Some of these expressions influencing in many parts of life carry a sexist identity. These expressions can be particularly used in determining place of a woman in society. Therefore, investigation of sexist-centered proverbs and idioms will be helpful in revealing the perception of a woman in a society. In this paper, a discourse analysis approach will be carried out for sexist proverbs and idioms against women in Turkish, giving examples, reasons, validity and social basis for these proverbs and idioms. The historical and cultural background have been taken into consideration in the analysis of each expression. On the other hand, human nature as well has been taken into consideration. While mental deficiency and incorrect choices of women come into prominence in the given examples, power anxiety of man has been emphasized. These inferences have partially survived today. The lifestyle of women undergoing for centuries and value judgements of the society have determined the present place of women.
