Summary/Abstract: The article entitled “The World of Values and the Education of Children and Youngsters” is aimed at seeking the answer to the question about the presence of values in the process of educating and rearing, that is, about the coherence between the axiology of education and the axiology of rearing. The deliberations point at two significant aspects: firstly – values appear to be untransferable, whereas the spiritual formation devoid of values – virtually impossible; secondly – rearing is based on the classical paideia, the aim of which is “making a pupil follow”, and not “pushing” him or her. The experience of time (inter alia postmodernity, technological leap forward, globalization) places a cognizing individual before a new cognitive challenge. Postmodernity implies a labile cognition, deconstructing the sense of certain knowledge. The world of universal values is not approved by everyone, which stems from a different understanding of them. The world of values is most visible in the process of rearing. Is it present in the subject‑based teaching? Can, apparently axiologically neutral, subjects contain valuating judgments? The answer to those doubts suggests intellectual preparation and consolidation of axiological order, in which a cognizing individual (e.g. though reading) responds to the content he or she is given.
