Summary/Abstract: The paper studies long-standing and very stable links between the Serbian realistic short story and folk fairy-tales, while emphasizing the permeability toward the folk fantastic as one of the differentia specifica of Serbian realism in relation to the West European one. The presence of the folk fantastic in the realistic short stories links them with the similar poetic principles on which the Gogol type of realism was founded. The paper analyses transformations which the oral genre underwent with the change of context, as well as the stylistic-semantic growth established by its mediation within the realistic corpus.
