Summary/Abstract: Acculturation and/or ethnic identity. Interethnic social distances as catalyst of ethnic identity of Bulgarians, Turks and Roma in contemporary Bulgaria /Social-psychological perspective/ // The article represents a theoretical overview of some of the theories of acculturation and presents a social-psychological analysis of the relation between acculturation and ethnic identity. It aims at answering the question whether it is possible to amend the ethnic identity in the process of acculturation. The article also presents the results from an empirical research on the interdependence between ethnic social distances and the degree of identity among ethnic Bulgarians, Turks and Roma from various cities of Bulgaria. The results demonstrate that the magnitude of social distance has predictive value regarding the degree of identity.
