Summary/Abstract: The theme of inner freedom, which unfolds in the symbols of flight, wings, sky, and clouds, goes back to the ancient literature (Ancient Sumer, Egypt, and Greece). Later on, it is brought up again by the authors (both poets and novelists) of the Romanticism and the Silver Age. And it is still up-to-date for the contemporary literature, which is sensitive to social, political, and psychological changes in the society, accordingly. This article reviews the affinity of Karel Čapek's and Igor Irteniev's short stories. Both authors use the symbol of wings in their works, and similarly cover the topic of finding inner freedom and daring.
