Summary/Abstract: The paper focuses on the set expressions in legal discourse and their use for the purposes of interpreting, as well as on their role from their rhetorical perspective. It begins with the basic characteristics of rhetoric as a scientific discipline, followed by judicial rhetoric as one of its branches. Further on it deals with legal language and its typical features, including the set expressions and language cliché. Their role in the legal discourse is emphasized. Moreover, it is being point out to them as to the important part of translatological framework related to the trials and the roles of its participants, reflected upon the characteristics of their speeches there. The paper then continues with going into more detail about the two of the key features of the legal language, including nominalization and passive constructions. It is being concluded with the Aristotelian rhetorical triangle in relation to the set expressions that have their own role in it. The above-mentioned parts of the paper are accompanied with the examples of the formulaic expressions from our own research and corpus, as well as from the internet sources. In the end, the importance of the formulaic expressions and their features that enable them to be automatized in the process of the interpreters’ education and training, as well as their further practical benefits for the process of (not only) legal interpreting, are stressed.
